Word count

For a Word document:

- open your document

- click on "File" in the menu bar (top left of your screen)

- choose "Properties" from the drop-down menu list

- in the window that opens, choose the tab "Statistics"

- you then obtain the number of words in your document.

Caution: please note that if you have added "text boxes", image files or inaccessible tables with embedded text in your document, the texts in these boxes, image files and tables will not be taken into account in the word count. You should therefore make allowance for this in your calculation.

For a Powerpoint document:

Same procedure as for a Word document.

For an Excel document:

Given that Excel does not possess a word-counting option, you must select and copy all the text in your Excel file and then paste it into a Word document. You then simply follow the procedure described above.

For a PDF (Acrobat) document:

If the PDF was made from a Word or InDesign document, for example, You should be able to select the entire text (using the keyboard shortcut "ctrl a" (or "cmd a" on a Mac), then copy and paste it into a Word document.

Caution: please note that if your PDF file includes images with embedded text, this text will not be taken into account in the word counting procedure. You should therefore make allowance for this in your calculation.

For an InDesign document :

Export the file in PDF format and then follow the procedure described for PDF documents.

Témoignages

Hello,

The Client has validated the documents. He thanks us for having kept the deadline and compliments you for the quality of the translations.

I hope we have an opportunity of working with you again in the recent future.

Yann Renoul, (Civil engineering and building, Hydraulics, Standards)

Thank you very much indeed for the reactivity of you and your team - you have got us out of quite a tight spot!

Our offer will be leaving tonight (as too will most of our staff) and it wouldn't have been possible without your support.

I look forward to working together again in 2012, in much more reasonable circumstances!

Benjamin Wells, Transport Projects, Coteba, group Artelia (Civil engineering and building, Transport)
